Busy day today--but I did want to mention that I cracked 11k on my #NaNoWriMo 2009 novel last night. I'm psyched!
See what you think: http://manhattanstory.tumblr.com
So, that makes just 41,420 to go. Wow. When I put it that way, it still seems rather daunting still, doesn't it?
Hm, well, I should probably just focus on the fact that I'm already closing in on the first 10k after just four days! Pages-wise, it's even more impressive since I'm now onto page 45. However, I'm double-spacing this year, so compared to previous years, I'm only as far as page 22 or 23. :( Regardless, I'm enjoying it so far. Have you been following along? If not, why not give it a read? I don't use big words and, so far, I'm not exploring any huge concepts or anything. At this point, it's just a mystery/thriller. There's even a robot! Check it out: http://ManhattanStory.tumblr.com Or download PDFs for each chapter from it's page on TheWikiPeteia: http://wiki.thepete.com/w/ManhattanStory Do let me know what you think, if you do have a read. I'm always open to opinions, good or bad. Just don't bag on the 1st-draftedness of it. Typos, grammatical mistakes, and stuff like that are just not important at this stage in the game. Do the characters and story seem interesting? Do you want to know what happens next? These are the questions I'd love to hear answered. :) Thanks for checking it out, regardless!
Hm... what word should I start with?
Too bad King Mike will win anyway. How can he not when he spends millions and millions to win?
Sure would be nice if the NaNo folks could turn on the damn wordcount graphics. Seems like every year they don't have the capacity to turn them on right away. It's all free, so I should just shut up, but still, they could get that part going since so many of us rely on the bragability factor to help keep us going. I actually quit Script Frenzy a few years back because their wordcount graphics weren't enabled a week or so into it. I can see my word count if I go to the NaNo site, but not on my blog? Come on, people: WORK IT OUT.
Please? With evaporated cane juice on?
Pleh... wish I didn't use M$ Word :(
There is also an individual mandate requiring all Americans to have health insurance, although the penalties for non-compliance are lower than penalties in the Senate bill, which imposes a maximum fine of $1,500 for families who forgo insurance.
Yeah, I seem to remember an argument I had with someone on Twitter not too long ago (COUGH@raybeckermanCOUGH) about how there would be no mandate forcing every citizen to get insurance. Well, sorry, but it looks like penalties will be dropped on folks who wish to opt out of what I like to call our Schadenfreude-based Health Care system (it's the kind of system that gets rich off of the misery of others).
Funny how it gets harder and harder to act with your morals.

It was strange being back in New York City. I had been there enough times as a kid to form pretty solid memories. However, during most of my teenage years I spent most of my time in the suburbs and then went off to school. Being back nearly two decades later was troublesome. I couldn’t reconcile the city I remembered with the one I lived in.
I’d often find myself sitting on a bench at a stop on the iLine, staring out through the clear Plexane walls that the iLine’s tube was made of. The sun would hit the curved surface and create a soft haze over everything below. It was like looking down on heaven.
3707 words down, at least 46,293 to go!
The ten minute HD Jay The Vlog is fricken 718MB!! It's taken *literally* a day to upload it!
I'll be shocked if YouTube has the HD version converted before morning...
